Large Bull Elk after Shedding Velvet in the 3rd Week of August. Elk antlers are regrown every year. His antler velvet is all but gone as of August 21st. Bulls shed their antlers yearly, and start growing antlers again in the spring, becoming a complete set by mid August when the Elk rut begins. A complete rack weighs approximately 25 to 40 pounds and can be up to 4 feet long with a span of 5 feet.
