Jasper National Park Helicopter Crews Battling the Wildfire
Jasper National Park Helicopter Crews Battling the Wildfire
Jasper's wildfire still poses no risk to the townsite; Jasper has still been experiencing intermittent power outages with some of the town being without power. The Municipality of Jasper and ATCO are working in close collaboration while generator power is being used.
Additional critical infrastructure has been put in Place..
More firefighters have been added on the ground and Parks Canada is working very closely with ATCO to restore power poles. High-volume sprinklers have been spread along critical infrastructure and visitor facilities. A test of the Sprinkler system was done here using just natural water pressure, but when the powerful engines are running, each sprinkler can throw water 200 feet.
8 helicopters are focused on bucketing water onto the Mountain slopes of Jasper's highly visible wildfire. Bambi Buckets are carried by these helicopters containing between 270-9800 liters of water for aerial firefighting. The Bambi Buckets can be opened at the bottom for both quick filling along with reducing drag when flying empty.
